Your First Meeting

What to Expect at Your First Meeting

What do you think your first SA meeting will be like?

…What you’ll find is a group of friendly, loving people happy to give you all the support you need.

We sexaholics hold normal jobs and have families, friends, children, and hobbies just like you do.

What Actually Happens at Your First Meeting?

We meet in various locations throughout the Greater Milwaukee area. When you come to your first meeting, we’ll greet you and help you feel welcome.

We understand exactly how you feel because we came to our first meetings and felt uncomfortable too.

All meetings have a standard format they use to start. The format varies slightly by meeting.

You can say as much or as little as you want. You only need to give your first name.

At some point in the start of the meeting, you’ll be asked if you’d like a Newcomer’s Meeting.

What Happens in Your Newcomer’s Meeting?

Again, nothing to sweat here. 1-3 sober members will break off from the main meeting and meet with you privately.

You’ll read a brief selection from the SA White Book, our guide to working the program.

Each member will share some of their story – what it was like before the program, why they came to SA, and how their life has changed since they began working the 12 Steps.

Then, you’ll get some time to share your own story. You can share as much or as little as you want.

During the meeting, you can ask as many questions as you’d like.

And that’s really about it!

At the end of your Newcomer’s Meeting, hopefully you feel like you’ve made a connection and are welcome to keep coming back.

Milwaukee has many different meetings every day of the week, each with their own vibe.

As a next step, we suggest coming to a few SA meetings to learn more about our Program,  Fellowship, and 12 Steps of Recovery.
